Day 55 - Swimming Holes, Grubs, Stella Views

BEASLEY RIVER TO KARAJINI
Today had is ups and downs. We headed for Karajini Nation Park not really knowing what to expect and without a plan.

After choosing a dirt track on our way to Tom Price a rattle started coming from the roof. It was the light bar that lost a bolt, 2nd one this trip, both sides! It has been poorly installed from a 4WD, so I will not recommend or mention (but for those that want to know 'No Limit 4X4 Dandenong'). It got bush repaired with some rope and duct tape until we got to Tom Price and could find the correct bolt and some split washers. In town I also made a call ahead to Broome to arrange a chip in the windscreen to be repaired that we incurred on our way to Ningaloo from an on coming car.

Coming into Karajini the landscape gradually changed displaying mountains of what looks like stacked plates forced out of the ground, all sorts of red, brittle and cracked. We had been recommended Dales Gorge so headed there first, partially in the hope that we might snag a campsite if we walked in 🤞 not a chance! Online & walk-ins for the overflow fully booked out. Oh well, there was some free camps just outside of the park we could check out once we had done our visiting.
So we started at circular pool lookout and the trail through to Fortescue Falls & Fern Pool.
It was a beautiful walk, deep gorges, wild flowers & amazing rocks kept the boys interested as we walked the 2kms 🙌
Down the flight of 287 steps to the bottom of the gorge lead us to some spectacular swimming spots. It was rather cold though so mummy and Judd watched from the edge while the others braved the cold waters!
Judd & Mum jogged back the 2kms up ahead of the others to collect the car from the far carpark & bring it closer to pick up the tired little legs.
By now it was on to finding somewhere to sleep. As we drove out of the national park we thought we would check out the 'gravel pit' as marked on wiki camps. We drove in to find an ordinary campsite, but on driving a little further up a track towards a mountain we found a spectacular spot and the scenery was devine!! Looking out on a mountain range not another camper in site, fire wood already collected... This was a winner!!!
We enjoyed a dinner cooked on the fire, with special drinks and marshmallow dessert. Mummy found a witchetty grub that the boys loved playing with and building a home for.
