Judd had a burning desire to climb the mountain that was behind our campsite from the moment we arrived. So it was up before dawn for Judd and daddy while mummy hung back at camp while the other boys caught a bit more sleep.
Clint and Judd shouted with victory as they reached the top, they spent pre dawn with their legs dangling over the edge of the top admiring the rock layers in the cliffs across the valley as they slowly caught the morning sunlight.
Scrambling up carrying the extra kilos of Micah and pushing Marty along was a good workout 💪 Nothing quite like a morning mountain climb to get the blood pumping. We all enjoyed the incredible views from the top, the stillness of the morning air and the sound of bird song.
Heading north up the Great Northern Highway, towards Port Headland. The first part of the drive had some incredible views.
There were plenty of road trains travelling along this route in and out of the mines. It made for a fun roadside stop as we stood on top of the camper trailer and waved like mad, counting all the honks, waves and toots -15 in total. The boys loved it!!
We also managed to find large marble boulders to climb and scramble over.
We stopped at Port Headland and watched a big ship come into port, with the help of 5 tug boats to navigate the narrow shipping channel. Two either side and one at the back. Such a big ordeal & so many resources to just get one boat into port!
The boys loved watching the boat but even more they loved trawling the shore line with thousands of hermit crabs. Finding the biggest and smallest.
It had been quite a though day in the car particularly with Micah, so it was good to stop and stretch the legs and have a proper explore.
It was then back on the road for the last leg to camp, about 1.5hrs north of Port Headland.
We snagged the first available campsite because the place looked packed and it was getting late, the kids were SO over it!! The campsite was a winner, right on the beach, looking out to dunes and no neighbours. Claire whipped up another delicious dinner and Clint took the boys for a much needed run on the beach.
