Day 115 - Crocs, Crystal Caves and Cold Mornings

WOODLEIGH STATION TO THE BILLABONG (KARANDA)
It was a cold night and chilly morning by comparison to what we had been experiencing recently. It called for cooking a hot porridge & coffee.
Clint couldn't resist a swim (nudie) in the inviting water despite the fact Claire had only just witnessed a small croc launching itself into the water after having an early sunbake on the bank. He returned with everything in tact. The water was reasonably warm but it was obvious the morning air was cold 😂.
On our way towards the Atherton Tablelands we stopped at Windy Hill where there was an opportunity to have a school lesson. Over 20 years ago 20 windmills were installed, which once operational would provide power for 12,500 homes in the 3 surrounding towns. We learnt about blade angles, turbines, fossil fuels, and how to live a more ecosustainable life.
It was beautiful driving watching the changing landscape. From hot dry Savannah with just a single story bushland to the multistory Tablelands with green rolling hills. It was a refreshing feeling.
In Atherton town we did the crystal cave tour and saw some of the most dazzling jewels and even the real 11kg meteorite from the Wolfe Creek Crater.
When then went to find our site for the evening at the billabong camp in Karanda. We enjoyed dinner by the Billabong and running races on the grass.
