It was Market day at Port Douglas. So after we had packed up Sandy and then spent the following 30mins hunting around the caravan Park for Claire phone, which turned up under the bed in Sandy. We then made out way down to the markets by the marina.
There were so many great little stalls. It had a great range of cheap tropical fruit to nice local trinkets. We bought lots of bananas, grapefruit, paw paw, avos and then found a birthday present for Claire which was in a few days time. The boys also got some wooden swords and a rubber band gun.
We arrived right on lunch time to the Daintree info centre. It was easy to see why it has won so many tourism awards. A bucket list for mummy, we couldn't believe we were actually here! And it's all we imagined and better. The rainforest was spectacular. Strangler figs hundreds of years old. Rain pouring down but barely reaching us on the forrest floor. Climbing to the top canopy and looking over rainforest as far as you can see, mountains shrouded in cloud and following the forrest all the way to the sea. It was a tropical paradise. The boys were intrigued by a friendly python which must have been on feeding time. It slithered, holding itself right to the top of the glass.
We looked for a cassawary but were unlucky. It had been on the other side of the park and then wondered back into the bush. There was also a section on dinosaurs of the Daintree. The boys had taken their swords to protect thenselves from the dinosaurs and just as well. They were huge!!!🐊🦖🦕
We happened to be right by near Cow bay. This was another location on the Alison Lester book 'Are we there yet?' that we were able to visit. It was wet and rainy.
We arrived at our camp at PK's village in Cape Tribulation. We went for a walk along the beach now that the rain had temporarily paused. Judd was keen to go on a hunt for coconuts. We found 3 with water in them. The rain returned and we ran back for shelter. Dad spent the rest of the day pulling the husk of the coconuts. We then drilled holes in them and drank the water but only one of them were sweet. We shared one with a curious and grateful passerby. It had been a busy day full of bucket lists ☺️
