Last night we did some research on which route to take up the cape. We had also spoken to several different people at two different information centres and they had conflicting information. The QLD main roads department also suggested that the 'road less driven' was currently closed due to flood damage still under repair.
With all our limited information, we decided we would play on the safe side and take to Savannah Way the rest of the way to through to Cairns region.
The morning was spent catching up on the jobs, washing, blogging as we haven't had internet for ages! And other camping life chores. The boys are great at amusing themselves with very little. Today they played fiercely with mahogany nuts and leaves. I overheard one of the bumpy nuts being called a grandpa! Haha. Their imagination is wonderful.
We headed out to check out the town of Karumba, so far the caravan park reveled that it was full of old people and people keen on fishing. There were two other families with older kids but no other little kids in the entire place! So we headed out to the beach, After all, this is where the outback meets the sea!
The beach was just beautiful, but too bad we couldn't get near the water 🐊 What do you do at the beach when you can't go near the water?? You build rock stacks!!
The beach had wonderful slabs of compacted and fossilised shells. It was quite beautiful.
The boys settled in and built for hours rock stack homes with beds, lamps, umbrella's stairs and verandah's.
We ate a picnic lunch in the shade of the Almond tree and Micah had another sleep under a tree, he's so good at this! We weren't planning on staying so long but the boys didn't want to leave, they were loving being by the beach again.
Eventually we dragged them away, back to the camper for a short time, before heading back out for a fish and chip dinner and catch up with friends from Adele's Grove.
Clint said the fish was the best he's ever had!! 🐟
We had a blast of a night hanging out with friends, playing chase on the beach and just loving being kids 😍 the boys are missing their Melbourne friends and family, but they are doing so well being far bolder and braver than they have ever been talking and playing with new people.
