We sat around an empty fire pit and had breakfast discussing the favorite pets we had met along the way, and there were lots: there were buffalos; chickens; horses; cows; snakes; all kinds of birds; fish; Barney the donkey; Sunny (Mel's dog), Browny, Molly and finally Loti the dogs. Both boys they decided over their weet-bix and honey, a morning regular, that they most liked Loti the dog they had just meet from Burke and Wills Roadhouse in Four Ways. She was an old border collie, probably a retired working girl from a station. A gentle nature that was good with kids. And she loved to fetch a stick, 'no pats, just throw a stick for me' her body language purveyed.
Once our friends from "thenoiseyvan" were up we were all into a giant game of chasey. 7 kids and 2 adults had run out all the sillys and were quite ready to step into their respective vehicles for a 2 hours drive up the road to Normanton to touch base with home over the info centre wifi and get a photo with the local giant croc. Then another 45mins peering out our windows looking at the dozens of Brolgas that inhabitated the area on our way to Karumba. It seemed Karumba was a bustling fishing village for grey fishing punters. We were lucky to find a space from the dozen or so caravan parks located in the remote village.
We spent the afternoon hanging by the pool and planning our next step across far north Queensland. Mum made a trip to the shops, and, for the first time in a long time we had cold ice cream from a cone for dessert. What a treat!
