LORELLA SPRINGS
Where to start... that's what we were asking ourselves anyway! There was so much to see and explore here at Lorella Springs station. They had a wonderful map with loads of descriptions to help you on your journey to adventure. We decided to head out to the far north east end of the park. To a place called Valley of the Ghosts and Nanny's retreat (#1 attraction) seeing as we only had one day to explore.
The 4wding was pretty hardcore getting there, and as usual Clint chose to take the 'scenic' route which meant it was even more hardcore than it really needed to be. It was a LONG way there, on arrival there was no obvious tracks or signs or even designated parking. It was just as far as you could go without destroying your vehicle! So it was a choose your own adventure kind of place, we picked a direction and started walking! Towards the rocky escapement... In search of the coolest caves.
Clint took some drone photos, while the boys and I hid in a shady cave & had morning tea. The local bees thought Clint and the buzzing drone were a threat. So he was chased off the mountain top swatting off the swarming locals.
What we discovered next was amazing! A network of caves, small, medium & large that all joined and were interconnected. Perfect for a Micah, Marty & Juddy to play for ages. Imaging furniture, doors, t.v on the rock wall and beds. The boys even said they wanted to come back here with building supplies and make them livable for them and their kids one day!
It was a short trip, back down the bumpy track to 'Nanny's Retreat' which we renamed 'Mummy's Retreat'! A long '800m' walk in and we were hangary and hot!! Ready for a swim! It was beautiful, we explored a cave, we built dams, relaxed in rock pools, played dolphins and explored up the creek. We had the entire place to ourselves for the whole afternoon. It was devine.
Back to camp and we had another swim in the thermal pool, explored the homestead and had a BBQ dinner.
