Day 62 - Gibb, Crocs and Echos

BROOME TO WINJANA NP
We set off early heading in the direction of the Kimberly's. Today we would set upon the Gibb River Road, a road notorious for destroying cars and totalling caravans. We had set up our car with this road in mind. Bullbar, Snorkel, Dif breathers, High profile All Terrain tyres and Satin black painted rims, to look bad-@$$!
On our way into derby to refuel we stopped to see the boab prison tree used to house incarcerated aboriginals overnight who were being transfered on. It is a shame such a astonishing tree was used for such barbaric purposes.
We hit the Gibb Rover Road and were quite surprised to find it was bitumised 😂 it wasn't too far down the track we saw why it lived up to its name. The corrugations instantantly waged war with our car with rythmical destruction, like a machine forcing it's will upon the material. We found a pace that seemed to endure the least amount of wrecking on CRUZIE and Sandy and set our sights on reaching our camp for the night.
We continued through to Winjana campground without incurring any damage. The were numuous stops on the way to check tyre pressure and shock temperatures were all okay.
The campground overlooked the grandure of the King Leopold escarpment. A short walk after we had set up and we were walking through the gorge of fossilized limestone. It was like walking onto set of some nature movie. It was just unreal. As inviting as the water looked there were constant reminders of why you wouldn't want to swim in there. Crocs were just skimming the surface showing their bodies before returning to the depths of the river. We enjoyed some afternoon tea and a beer and then destroyed the peace and tranquility by making our voices reverberate against each face of the escarpment. Then slowly made our way back to camp for dinner and bed.
Some friendly neighbors knocked on our tent & invited us to pat the local campground kangaroo who was enjoying the lettuce someone had fed him for dinner. It was fun for Judd to see the wildlife up so close!
