DAY 82 - Thermal Pool, COVID Plans and Minions

ELSEY NP (MATARANKA)

A slower start for most in the campground this morning, except for those right nextdoor who woke us with their engine starting early. Most people are staying put due to COVID locking down Darwin & surrounds, which is a really strange thing to see as usually campgrounds are totally cleared out by 9am.
We packed a lunch & headed off to make the most of a day in the beautiful Mataranka region. The towering Livestonia palms are a tropical oasis as you meander down the path from the homestead to the thermal pool.
The crystal clear waters are devine, a perfect temperature 👌 inviting you in with no cold shock!
We paddled about and enjoyed people watching! It's not a huge area so it did get rather busy, a lot of people hanging around this region to avoid getting stuck in the Darwin lockdown.
We ate our lunch & snacks on the banks and swam some more. Eventually, wrinkled as prunes we made our way back to the homestead to enjoy an Icey pole while Clint & I made the most of the free wifi & reception for planning the next leg of the journey.
A spanner has really been thrown in the works, along with all the disappointed emotions that come along with the fact that we were headed for time with family and are only 3hrs away but can't see them ... We've come such a long way to stop so close! Tensions in the camp 😬 Clint and I have figured out we both like a plan!! Even if it is a plan to have no plans! Haha!

So instead of wasting time just waiting for Darwin to no longer be a COVID hotspot, we have decided we would spend the time heading to Kakadu. We weren't sure if we would make it out there this trip, but this is an opportunity we are grabbing! With the hope that with a few more days Darwin will return to to situation normal 🤞
Lots of conversations with family, keeping up to date with the latest press releases etc. And letting them know our plans.

Back to camp, a quite afternoon Micah had a sleep under the shade of a tree. Mummy did stacks of hand washing and daddy cooked dinner, while the bigger boys played very creatively with party hats turned into jet planes with a whole role of sticky tape!
Dinner was not such a success, kids were a bit picky with too much pumpkin! But mummy and daddy thought it was delish. Hungry kids off to sleep with an evening movie - minions.
