Day 83 - HALFWAY! Pandanus Nuts and Waterfalls

ELSEY NP TO MUGUK
Today was a milestone on our trip, it marked halfway through our planned venture. It also happened to be Territory day (cracker night). The Darwin Covid outbreak had changed the course of cracker night along with our plans to be in Darwin for Micah and cousin Riley's birthday's. However changing plans often have a way of working out for the best, despite feeling a little disappointed we carried on and made plans to tour around Kakadu instead leaving us a little more up breast than we were the previous day.

We stopped in at Katherine to restock and refuel. Then we were of to Kakadu National Park. We took some photos of the sign as we entered but Marty ran and hid just as we took the photoπŸ˜’.

Along the way, excited about our first camp in Kakadu, we took stock of our halfway milestone:
 - We had now been on the road away from home 83 days which is the longest any of us had ever been away from home.
 - We had driven 13,026kms and across 4 states and Territories.
 - We had set up and packed down Sandy 35 times.
 - Refueled CRUZIE 27 times with a total of 2,253L driving at an average of 17.3L/100km costing $3,367 (best fuel price $1.279, worst $2.15).
 - 4 times had parts fallen off the car (trailer light adapter, light bar [twice], front wheel guard).
 - Lost items: 2 hats, 1 pair of sunglasses, 1 waterbottle.
 - Found: 8 tent pegs, 55cents, 1 snorkel mask, pair of kids shorts.
 - Taken 3,598 photographs and videos
 - Fastest speed: 130kph when we hit the Northern Territory, boys thought it was awesome. Mum, not so much.
 - Caught 8 fish
 - 28km in trek walks together
 - Earliest on the road 7.10am
 - longest drive day 6hrs
 - Worst road Kulubaru/Mitchell Falls Road
 - Worst corrugated road Jim Jim Falls road Kakadu
 - Best fish and chips
 - 1 light aircraft flight (dad)
 - Dad's read 3 books
 - Just once got lost
 - And lost the plot coutless times, mainly due to Micah screaming in the back seat just before he falls fast asleep.
Our first camp was to be at Maguk. Arriving to a beautiful shady site with Pandanus trees Clint knocked off some Pandanus nuts for the boys to play with whole we quickly set up Sandy before setting off on a walk to the waterfall for a swim.
It was a good walk in and a beautiful spot to swim with fish and a shot to sit under the waterfall and let it massage your head and shoulders.
Clint and Judd stepped to rock climb up and around but after getting half way up thought better and came back down.
With some exhausted little bodies that didn't put up a fight to go to bed, everyone was off to bed early.
