It was a beautiful start to the morning. Dry beds for big boys with no nappys (because we had run out). We had caught the early filtered light over the river and it was absolutely magnificent. It was after that that we went to reverse back up the sandy river path and got bogged. MaxTraxx got us out but we were going to run into the same issue.
1 hour later after managing to turn around and the boys learning how to dig and install traxx we etched our way up the track and back onto solid ground. It was a moment of ecstacy for the Hartleys. We felt like anything from here would be a breeze. We needed that going into today where we would be travelling on known rough roads, where many people we had spoken with along the way had run into issues with tyre blow outs, damage to suspension and things just rattleing off.
We passed through the QLD border and were hit with an sms to welcome us and ensure we check our travell path for Covid hotspots along the way. We celebrated with noodles on the border and got some honks from some passing cattle road trains.
We then had a choice, we could either take the long way around, about 4 hours with a road many travellers have said was the worst they had come across. OR, do we try a station road that we were told about from old mate at lorella springs, a smooth road that cuts off hundred of kms, and would save canage that CRUZIE and Sandy would surely endure. We saw the sign 'Savanah Alt Route 1' we took it. Along the way we passed several private property signs which made Claire nervous but after coming across a station worker our minds were more at ease. It was a beautiful drive with a deep river crossing and gates to pass through. It was an 80km journey through the station were we saw some herds of cattle and had to get passed.
Out through the final gate and it was a short easy road into Adels grove unscathed. We found ourselves an nice shady spot under the trees and enjoyed the quiet evening after our biggest 7 hour drive day.
