PENTECOST RIVER TO LAKE ARGYLE
Another glorious day in paradise begins to unfold as the dawn light rose over the Escarpment overlooking the river.
An early start as we were keen to get into Zebedee Springs at Elquestro station before the masses of tourists flooded in.Crossing through the Pentecost River is an iconic experience along the Gibb River road. I was a little disappointed it wasn't deeper and more of a challenge but it was still fun none the less as I hung my head out the window to get some footage, Clint wasnt keen for me to walk though because of the crocodile threat... Fair enough!! The mountain backdrop was beautiful.
With that done, it was into Elquestro station only about 40min drive. It is the most accessible cattle station along the Gibb, being so close to Kununurra & bitumen road. No expense spared!
We were doing a quick trip just into the springs and out again so we didn't bother heading right up to the homestead, not this trip anyway. A bit of a dodgy... Because your supposed to pay a fee for being on their property. But so annoying that you have to drive further than where you want to go just to get your ticket. Especially with cranky children on board that just want to get out!!
Zebedee Springs was just devine, a slice of paradise hiding in the savannah woodland of the Kimberley nestled in the 'King Leopold Sandstone' surrounded by towering Livestonia palms. The natural thermal spring is at 28-32 degrees all year round & today it was just perfect! The boys loved exploring the shallow pools & building rock towers. Daddy & mummy enjoyed the opportunity to wash hair and have a massage thanks to the water fall, better than visiting a day spa!
We headed out with no trouble and onto Kununurra.
Last stop on the Gibb was a photo opportunity with the sign & a strategic CRUZIE ADVENTURE sticker placement 😉 - Been there, survived the Gibb & Mitchell Falls roads, done that!! 🙌
Kununurra was an opportunity to shop, fix a busted trailer lights adapter (which also works the trailer brakes. Unfortunately it has popped out of the socket on the last stretch of the Gibb yesterday & dragged along the road destroying it completely). & coming into reception also allowed us to catch up on the latest news through family.
A lot to do, so we started with lunch at the playground! Unfortunately it struck us that it was a Sunday and nothing was open so we weren't able to get the trailer part. Also we had now been alerted to the fact that Darwin had COVID cases and was going into lockdown for 48hrs so our plans to go to the territory were a little sketchy. We decided to push through with heading east as we were still hopeful to catch Micah's birthday at Aunty Ali & Uncle Adrian's place.
We headed for our campsite out at Lake Argyle, a free camp... Not sure if we were supposed to be there or not... But we nestled or way right out the back as we have a habit of doing, in the bush as far as we can go! Secluded and a magnificent view 👌
While we were seeing up we got more news that the lockdown was now extended an additional 3 days, which meant we would no longer be able to be there for Micah's birthday, our plans as to where we go from here were suddenly thrown out the window. Do we stay in WA? Or get over the border & wait it out outside of the hotspots are we risking not getting our of the territory?? Where would we stay if we did get stuck? Will QLD let us across their border of we do try getting out? So many things to think about all whilst looking after kids and being in a spectacular place to check out!!
So we bundle up the kids and went to checkout the lake!
A beautiful spot, so much water!!! Clint was dreaming about somehow piping it down to Eildon. The Dam wall is an incredible invention, so small yet holds back SO MUCH WATER!! We checked it out & put our faith in a pile of rocks 😂
