Day 26 - The Two That Got Away.

ALBANY
We got chatting to a family that had been out fishing the previous day. Stories of pulling out a dozen decent size salmon from the beach stirred up a strong desire to give it a crack. We got the locations and other handy tips. One quick trip to BCF for some gang hooks and bait and we were off to Salmon Beach at high tide. It was expected to rain heavily so we didn't expect to see to many people, however there was the one friendly old local lady who was happy to lend some tips and boast about her catch, an 8kg salmon. The boys were playing sandcastles and Claire was chief lifeguard and support hoping that we would catch something too as the boys had continually talked about catching a fish since we left home.
The fact that this lady had caught one filled me with hope, I got the line set up and Claire helped Google how to rig up the bait onto a gang hook (😂 rookies) and I cast it into the second break...along with half my line causing a great big tangled mess. The next 15 mins was spent untangling the line and fending off hungry and curious seagulls from my bait. A second try with my ego non-existent the cast was into the second break again. Within 90secs I had one on, a big one from what I could tell. After a quick fight the bait came loose. This was a good sign that there was lots of fish in the sea, filling me with hope. The weather was also looking good despite the reports, holding off for now anyway. A third cast and no more than a minute later I had another one on!It headed for the rocks and it broke off taking everything with it, hook, line & sinker. The old lady watched on, in partial disbelief that I had managed to lose 2 fish in 5mins but gave me a tip to check the line. Old line can become brittle and this is exactly what has happened. I was able to break it easily between my hands. I called it off before I lost any more tackle to the hungry salmon.

Back at the caravan park we explored the rec room and Marty gravitated to the air hockey using his own pocket money he started a game with Claire, the machine glitched and they played the longest game, but had a ball.
All the boys then proceeded to the jumping pillow for a wrestle, followed by the pool then shortly followed by the spa as the weather was still chilly. Claire whipped up a big Aussie spaghetti bol which means it had lots of veggies in it!!
