LUCKY BAY to MONKEY MIA
(Via Kalbarri National Park)
Soon after hitting the road we were rolling through the town of Kalbarri which not long ago was smashed by ex cyclone Seroja. The evidence was everywhere. It was bustling with plenty of people there rebuilding and repairing.
We pulled in at Kalbarri National Park, which was one of the most beautiful National Parks Clint and I have seen. The day was stella, sun shining, slight breeze and 22 degrees. Perched up on the plateau overlooking the deep gorges below. The mighty Murchison river flows through the country carving the spectacular ancient ravines.
'Natures Window' was as amazing as all the reviews and hype. It was one of those places you wish you could stop in time and endlessly appreciate.
The river below looked so inviting, we wished we could be loading up a canoe and paddling down it camping along the banks as we went! Perhaps another one to add to the bucket list. The park has been beautifully & tastefully designed and would make a recommendation to visit if you're in the area.
We made several selective toilet stops along the way to Monkey Mia, beautiful scenery driving up the peninsula and plenty of places to pull out & see something amazing.
We were all really looking forward to getting to Monkey Mia and seeing the dolphins! And did it deliver?! YES!! That afternoon we saw several dolphins swimming off shore while the boys played in the shallows. It seemed that every time I looked out to the ocean I would see more dolphins, even looking up & out from the camp kitchen!
It's a nice campground but Monkey Mia is such a random place, other than dolphins and an expensive cafe there isn't anything else there! It's a long way to get people to travel of the highway and not even offer a small town!
We decided that if we did it again we would stay in the neighbouring town of Denham and do a day trip out to Monkey Mia.
