LAKE GILLES TO STREAKY BAY
We woke to the most amazing Sun rise full of pinks and blues. One thing I have come to remember again is how quickly sunrise passes compared to sunsets. An attempt to capture it on drone was quickly thwarted by some tired batteries.
We set off back down the narrow, windy, brush covered track and pulled back out onto the Hwy. Only a few kms up the Hwy we spotted the signed turn off to Lake Gilles campground. We laughed and were grateful for the iconic, secluded adventure we had just had.
We stopped at Poochera which the boys thought was the greatest name for a town ever and had plenty of laughs for the last 30kms coming in. We Had a spot of lunch and Claire and Judd took the opportunity to leave there own.....Poochera was known for the discovery of the Dinosaur Ants, the closest ansestor to the dinosaurs (or last evolved) apparently their string is excruciating and there has only been 3 recorded cases. We were glad not to see any except the large art form in the park which everyone had a ride on. The rain came in and we set off.
Next stop Streaky Bay. We stayed at the islands caravan park. We set up and then set off to spot the largest ever shark caught just of streaky bay. A model replica is located just inside the local Shell servo. Despite being a replica it still attempted to eat us all.
There was still time in the day to take a scenic drive to see the whistling rocks and blow hole. We would all cheer at the top of our lungs every time they would errupt. The cliff edge views were stunning and we had the firmest grip on each of the boys we have ever had.
Judd and Marty made new friends with our site neighbours who were also planning on staying a couple nights. Claire made delicious honey soy chicken on Quinoa. And we were all looking forward to our second day together in Steaky Bay.
