We cut our loses from the crazy night before and started our day at 5:40am, the wind still howling through. We packed up or camp and drove around trying to reach a view of the beach, or the lake, but were unsuccessful so headed off up the hwy for Mt Gambier. The Blue Lake was on our bucket list to show the boys and it was still before lunch when we arrived, so we did a walk up to the look out. Judd asked some good questions about how the Blue lake became Blue so Mrs Hartley had her first on the road teaching lesson about the Blue lake.
It was still cold and super windy so after a quick debate Claire made the call to buy a hot lunch despite having legitimately packed enough food for to last our whole trip around Australia in the trailer. It ended up being a good call as we needed reprieve from the cold and the wind.
During the week before we set off we were informed by our GP that Micah could need some medical follow up, after things hadn't improved after the last couple days we decided we would take him to Mt Gambier hospital to be cautious. As we were on our way back to the car Marty ttipped over and smashed his mouth into the carpark asphalt so when we arrived at the emergency department the triage nurse took a look at him first deciding the he would be okay and kindly handed him and the other boys an icy pole. Micah got seen and we were told to monitor it but could continue with our trip plans which was a relief to hear on both counts.
With that news we headed for Robe, SA the next point on our itinery and just another 1.5hrs up the hwy. All 3 boys slept which gave Claire and I time to talk and book our site for tonight, a camp called Stony Rise. It was an epic drive in, a sandy windy trail, mixed with exposed tree roots to avoid until eventually we reached the our camp site. After setting up, Claire prepared some spag bol dinner while I took the boys down to the beach.
