Stepped out of the tent, feet in the soft white sand to yet another beautiful sunrise!
The plan for today was not a huge driving day so we thought we could make the most of having the beach on our doorstep and spend the morning just enjoying the first beach in WA!
The kids were clearly missing the company of friends and family. Marty woke up and told us how he had a dream that his friends Flynn and Ollie could meet us here and play on the beach and swim with us.
Post breaky we headed for the beach, the sound of shreeking squeels of excitement is enough to put big smiles on all our faces. The boys just love running through the shallows, throwing sand at the approaching waves at an attempt to stop them coming further up the beach, building castles, moats and a mermaid tail adorned with jewels washed ashore.
While the four of us were busy creating beach masterpieces, Clint went for a beach run that turned out to be quite a decent distance!! About an hour later he returned & set about getting packed and ready for the next leg.
The car journey was full of book reading, colouring, snacking, car games, an attempt at school writing (not working so well in the car, because it's difficult to write nursing on your lap - need to sort something better once we get to Perth)
Lots of toilet stops π€¦πΌ♀️ they are getting better at stretching out a bit longer, but luckily Clint is playing golf and we are stopping at just about every roadhouse to do another hole. Today there were three holes along the journey... I'm not talking about the roadhouses, although I could be easily mistaken π I was referring to the golf holes!!
Fuel was getting pretty low so that was a priority for today, along with finding some toilet paper as supplies were running low!!
The winner for today was a fuel stop at $1.74. Which wasn't to bad considering the last roadhouse was $1.92 and 5 party pies & sausage rolls for a special kid lunch with a payphone call to the parents! Took us back to the good ol' days calling up from a payphone to get a lift home from the movies or sport π the boys loved the novelty of putting the money in the slot and getting to hear the grandparents brought smiles to all our faces! π 50c for 10min to a mobile... Not bad!!
We have been suprised at the lack of reception out here, it now been 6 days. Definitely something to consider for those travelling this way. We thought we would get it occasionally rolling through the small roadhouse stops or even towns like streaky bay had only Telstra exclusive network.
Camp spot tonight is in the Nuytsland Nature Reserve... an overnight pull off the highway. We drove about 5 min into the bush so we don't get highway noise, but we make plenty of our own noise anyway! Feels like we are in the dessert, not many trees so we did our best to park up under the shade that we could find. We won't be dealing with sandy feet in tents hereπ. Plenty of firewood so Claire got a fire going once we pulled up while Clint set up camp and got dinner happening. We were just about carried away by the files so out came the dorky fly head nets which were greatly appreciated & we ate dinner on the floor of the camper trailer to get some reprieve from the flies.
We are watching our water usage closely. Need to stretch it out a few more days, not much opportunity to fill up out here. Unless you are in paid campgrounds. Even then most of the water is desalinated which is preciously expensive & they don't mind you using what you need while your there but don't like you filling up tanks.
I did score the end of a roll of toilet paper from a roadhouse toilet π€« so we were set for a little longer but a lot of essentials are running low. Lots of good lessons for the kids in preservation happening at the moment!
A 'nailed it' moment for Claire with the camp oven π cooking another perfect damper for dessert. The boys call it a giant scone & love it topped with jam or nutella π delish!!
Yet another beautiful sunset, not a cloud in the sky but the vastness of this place is beautiful. Star gazing from the open tent as it is a little warmer tonight...for now anyway!!
P.s for those following the golf journey...it was a Par on the first but quickly feel away due to poor putting on the green.
