Day 4 - Road, Ferry, Bikes & Lobster

STONY RISE TO VICTOR HARBOR
Today was a 4 hour travelling day and the big boys are starting to get used to life on the road. They have they routine once we set off to a new location. On a typical drive they will do some colouring in, eat snacks, play a list of car games we printed prior to leaving and have a snooze. Micah is not quite as well adjusted and takes a bit of effort but will still take the opportunity to have a nap.
Today we set off and before long came across Larry the lobster which I have heard so much about listening to Hamish and Andy. He was as big and impressive as had been described and despite risking falling behind the 'grey nomads' (for anyone with kids who watch Bluey, you will get to what our kids constantly refer) we made a stop to visit him. Micah wanted to stay longer but the big boys wouldn't have a bar as the grey nomads were almost finished fuelling up so we took off in a haste.
Today we got to not a blue lake, but the Pink lake. Apparently what causes the lake to be pink is a chemical called carotene and is produced by an aquatic plant to protect it from the sun's rays. It didn't look all that pink today, perhaps because it was another very cloudy overcast day. We saw on our map travelling parallel to us was the Old Coorong Rd, having our time again we would have loved to drive this dirt track up the coast but this time it would have added significantly to our trip time and we had 3 sleeping boys in the back to consider.
The boys were very much anticipating the ferry part of our journey today. We lined up and in no time at all the ferry was docked ready for us and two other cars to board. It fired up it's diesel motors and pulled us to the other side via two thick steel cable's before docking to let us depart. Of course the whole thing was over in just a few minutes, which would didn't satisfy 2 eager boys , so instead of lining up to do it again, we stopped and made lunch on the the river bank to watch the cars, trucks, caravans and motorbikes make their journeys back and forth.
As we approached Victor Harbour their was strong winds and dust storms. We checked the weather report and it was reported gale force winds for the afternoon.
This made us second guess it decision the day before to book 4 nights in at the NRMA holiday park. When we arrived the staff were very accommodating and allocated us to a protected site out of the wind and away from any trees. We set up and within minutes and were on our bikes, all 5 of us, to check out the parks spoils. Jumping pillow, water parks with water slides, pump track, games room, play ground. It had it all. But more importantly for us adults, had showers and a laundry. It has now been 4 days with out.
We continued our ride out of the park and down towards the pier where we saw a big play ground on our way into town. The kids had a play before returning for a jump on the jumping pillow while I cooked up some chicken tacos for dinner. Then, finally hot showers, oh yeah!
